called!!! Check it out…

These images and the design of

BKF or Hardoy Chair, there is another story. Read on to know…
The
Journey of Butterfly Chairs
Back in the year 1938, Buenos
Aires was about to build a big project by Grupo Austral. When the three owners
of this group, Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy, Juan Kurchan and Antonio Bonet got
together, their architectural minds clicked to make the timeless design of
butterfly chairs. And since then, it has been flaunting the interior of homes
and has never looked back!
Here is something more:
- · Though butterfly chairs were manufactured for the project, they first came in front of the world in the year 1940 at the design exhibition – 3rd Salon de Artistas Decoradores.
- · After that, the then Curator of Industrial Design at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Edgar Kaufmann jr. fell in love with the design and bought two of them – one he kept at Fallingwater, his parent’s house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright; and the other one was kept at MoMA’s collection.
- · Butterfly Chair is also called BKF Chair with the initials of the three designers.
- · Later Hardoy got the primary authorship of the design of this chair. That’s why it is also often called Hardoy Chair as well.
Well, this is not the end,
there are more…
This
Chair also has got an Idol
And what idols do in your
life!! They inspire us to the highest, right!! Just like that, Butterfly Chairs
were also designed with the huge inspiration achieved from the furniture of British
military – the Tripolina Chair. Though motivated, it has been differentiated by
the sleek metal design and customizable covers and gathered worldwide
popularity.
Do
you know how many of them were created in the first hand!!!
You will be surprised to know
that the three architects of Grupo Austral did not design a single more or less
than their headcount – there were only 3 Butterfly Chairs manufactured by them.
P.S. I have told you about the
two chairs and where they are now!! But the world actually has no clue about
where is the third one!! It is an unsolved mystery of growing age with the time
passing by…
